Glossary of Pick Up Artist Terms
Below is a small dictionary of pick up artist acronyms, terms, and terminology. For additional information, check out the links at the bottom of the page.
- 3 Second Rule
- The rule that a target should be approached within 3 seconds of being spotted. This does not have to be taken literally, but implies that you should not hesitate in approaching a set. Acting immediately provides the following benefits:
- Helps to prevent approach anxiety from setting in
- Doesn’t leave your target time to develop negative opinions about you
- AFC
- Average Frustrated Chump. A stereotypical “nice guy” with no pick up skills or comprehension of what attracts women. An AFC will often supplicate his to women by buying them flowers, or otherwise putting them on a pedestal in hopes of being seen as attractive.
- AI
- Approach Invitation. Actions by a women to get your specific attention — as opposed to peacocking, which is done to get ALL men’s attention. These actions could include hovering around you, asking you a question, dropping something in front of you, or otherwise drawing your attention to her. Generally, you will be more successful in picking up women by looking for AI’s, rather than always cold approaching.
- AMOG
- Alpha Male Other Guy. This can refer to a social comfortable male who is competing with a PUA to attract a women. Or, it can refer to the act of removing a male competitor from a group through physical, verbal, or psychological tactics.
- ASD
- Anti-Slut Defense. The logic and maneuvers some women will go through to relieve the guilt of having sex with a man too quickly and avoid appearing slutty to the man she is with, to her friends, to society, or to herself. This can occur before or after sex, or can prevent sex from happening. ASD generally gets strong the longer a women has to contemplate the idea.
- Inner Game
- The internal challenges a pick up artist faces while attracting women. These generally revolve around confidence and self-worth. Inner game can have a profound impact on a PUA’s outer game and vibe. See our post about ways to improve your inner game.
